Today is the 198th birth anniversary of the great poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt. He was born on 25 January 1824 in Sagardari village of Keshabpur upazila of Jessore.

Madhusudan spent an important period of his childhood and adolescence in the village of Sagardari and drinking the sweetness of the cocoon that flowed by. The idea of ​​which is found in his poem 'Kopotaksh Nad'. He compared the current of this river with mother's milk and composed the famous sonnet 'Kopotaksh Nad'. His father was Zamindar Rajnarayan Dutt and his mother was Jahnavi Devi.

As a child, Madhusudan started his education with Maulana Lutfar Rahman in a school in his village. Besides, he learned Bengali and Persian from his tutor Harlal Roy. And the goddess Jahnavi introduced the child Madhusudan to the scriptures like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Purana etc. He spent his childhood in Sagardari and moved to Calcutta at the age of 13. He had a reputation as an accomplished student. While studying in college, she won a gold medal for writing an essay on women's education.

Madhusudan Dutt was a pioneer in composing epics in Bengali and in introducing Amitrakshara verses in Bengali poetry. His immortal creations in various branches of literature including dramas, comedies, epics, pamphlets, sonnets, tragedies have established the Bengali language and literature in a position of advanced status. 'Michael' is associated with his name after he converted to Christianity. 

He has written two comedies called 'Padmavati', 'Tilottamasambhav Kavya', 'Akei Ki Bale Sabhyata' and 'Buro Shaliker Ghare Ro', 'Meghnadabadh Kavya', 'Brajangana Kavya', 'Krishnakumari' Natak, 'Birangana' Kavya and Chatu. Composed. He is the promoter of serious Amitrakshara rhyme in Bengali literature.

In April 1849, his English book of poetry, The Captive Lady, was published. In 1852 he took up a teaching job in the high school department of the University of Madras. In 1854 he was appointed co-editor of the daily Spectator. In 1858 he started working as an interpreter in the court.

The great poet Michael Madhusudan Dutt passed away at a hospital in Calcutta on 29 June 183 at the age of 49.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of the poet on the banks of the Kopotaksh river in Sagardari of Jessore, the secluded village of Sagardari became famous with the arrival of thousands of poet devotees.
